Round six of the 2009 Nippon Challenge was at Mallory Park on the 27th September 2009.
Mallory Park saw the sixth round of the 2009 Nippon Challenge. The weather looked to be dry, which was certainly pleasing the RWD competetors.
Everyone passed scrutineering, so the drivers assembled for practice / qualifying. Everyone came out and started getting heat into the tyres, only for the red flags to be waved almost straight away. Martin White in his Subaru Cup car didn't quite manage to negotiate Gerrards and ended up in the tyre wall, ending his quailfying there and then. Fortunately, it didn't take long for the marshalls to clear Martin away, so qualifying quickly resumed. No more accidents ensued, leaving the final grid positions a reasonably familiar finish. A few changes were present with Alix Thimpson having moved from a Subaru Cup car to a more powerful Imprezza, leaving him second on the grid in his Super GT car.
Race 1 saw all drivers out for the start of the race, including Martin White in his sufficiently repaired Subaru. A clean start saw all the cars through into Gerrards, with Tim Clarke leading the pack. This, however, was not to last and Alix Thompson took advantage of Tim having to overtake slower cars to get past and retain the lead until the end of the race, despite Tim trying very hard to get back. As they were in separate classes, it sort of didn't matter, but I don't think Tim and Alix were thinking about that!
GT200 saw Rodger Sibley in his Honda Civic put in an excellent performance to win from the MR2 Mk2 cars.
Race 2 also started with everyone getting cleanly away, although the early overall lead for Alix Thompson was quickly contested by Tim Clarke, with Tim getting past Alix and going on the finish first overall. They each finished first in their class again.
Roger Sibley once again won GT200, with Vaughan Williams overcoming his problems in race 1 to win GT300 in race 2.
